Trace Requirements From Ingredient to Finished Product
Confirm the Import Review
Ask the importer or broker to confirm entry eligibility and the food safety, plant-health, testing, and document requirements for the actual dried product, origin, processing, and intended use. This page does not establish admissibility or a universal certificate requirement.
Review the Intended Onward Markets
An earlier clearance or customer approval must not be assumed to establish acceptance for a different finished product or market. Ask the relevant importers and technical advisers to review the actual chain.
Do not assume that requirements are always unrelated or that exactly two regimes apply. Identify the applicable product, use, origin, documents, and responsible parties at each step.
Preserve the Link Through Processing
Where an ingredient is transformed, keep the lot reference linked to intake, processing, and finished-product records. Merely forwarding the ingredient documents does not establish traceability through manufacture.
Agree the evidence and any retained-sample arrangement required from the offered lot. Availability, retention, and permitted document sharing need confirmation, not a promise of automatic answers years later.
Assess a Shared Specification or Separate Allocations
Compare all relevant parameters, methods, declarations, and acceptance points before choosing a common specification. If separate allocations are needed, document the identification and segregation plan.
Neither approach is automatically cheaper or feasible. Confirm the technical and operational scope and costs before production, and review changes before assigning a lot to another use.
Identify the Domestic Customer Brief
For material remaining in Portugal, identify the actual domestic use and customer requirements. The absence of onward export does not remove import, safety, traceability, or buyer acceptance obligations.
